At a time of shrinking office footprints and ongoing cutbacks across parts of the tech industry, the news Thursday morning from Acumatica stands out as unusual.
The company, which specializes in cloud-based enterprise resource planning (ERP) technology, said it opened a new 12,000-square-foot headquarters this week at the Corporate Campus East complex in Bellevue, Wash., doubling its desk capacity and increasing its number of conference rooms in the process.
Acumatica, led by CEO John Case since early 2022, was previously based in Kirkland, Wash. It employs almost 700 people worldwide, which is up from 265 employees when the company was acquired in 2019 by global private equity firm EQT Partners. More than 60 of the company’s employees are based in the Seattle region.
It’s part of a plan to increase Acumatica’s global headcount by 20% this year.
Martha Lucia Groulx, Acumatica’s chief people officer, said in a news release that the company offers a flexible, hybrid work model. Acumatica’s workplace culture has been recognized both nationally and regionally.
Acumatica offers cloud ERP technology for a variety of industries and sectors, competing against tech giants including Microsoft, Oracle, and SAP, among others.
The office market in the Seattle region has been struggling as the rise of remote and hybrid work have reduced the overall demand for space. First-quarter vacancy rates in the region rose to 15.1%, up from 13.9% at the end of 2023, according to Kidder Mathews. It was the ninth consecutive quarterly increase.
